Various Locations - Replacement of Toilet Blocks - Corinella, Kilcunda and Wonthaggi

GR Design & Construct Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to carry out design and construction for the replacement of Kilcunda Foreshore, Harold Hughes Reserve and Wonthaggi Guide Park Public Toilets after a competitive open tender process. Locations and layout plans of each of these projects is available here. Over that last few months, Council has been working with the contractor to finalise the detailed design, building permits and approvals in readiness for these works to start at each location.

The total project cost is in the order of $1,100,000 which is fully funded as part of our Building and Open Space renewal program.

A table below has details of anticipated start and completion dates* for each site, subject to contractor availability, favourable weather and any potential Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the State Government.

Benefits for the community

  • This project seeks to deliver upgrades to multiple community facilities across the Bass Coast Shire as part of the objective in contributing to the social health and well-being of the surrounding community. After extensive investigation and consultation, recommendation that the three community toilets be removed and replaced with upgrades providing universal access, public safety and meeting current Australia Standards.
  • A new Changing Places toilet facility will be built at Wonthaggi Guide Park. A Changing Places toilet is fitted with a height-adjustable adult-sized changing table, a track and hoist system and enough space to provide a safe, clean toilet and changing environment for those with additional needs. The new Changing Places facility will be a valuable asset for locals and visitors, possibly attracting people who otherwise wouldn’t have visited the area. This new changing places toilet facility will be the very first located in an open public space on mainland Bass Coast Shire. Read more about Changing Places facilities in this flyer.

What to expect

  • Demolition of the existing toilet facilities. supply and installation of new modular toilet blocks including and other ancillary works such as accessible concrete footpaths, concrete paving and final reinstatement of these sites.
  • Temporary portable toilets will be placed onsite and signage will be displayed for nearest accessible toilet locations.
  • Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures, will be implemented onsite during these works. These sites will be a construction zone and for your own safety and others, there will be some access restrictions. Our contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions to park users. We appreciate that these works may present an inconvenience and we ask for your patience during these times.
  • The use of plant and machinery including noisy and vibration works during demolition and construction of the new toilet blocks.
