An area for the placement of a Sound Shell in The Glade, Inverloch is supported by The Glade Master Plan where a raised earth platform is already constructed and three phase power has been installed.

Acoustic Sound Shells are a curved, hard surface designed to reflect sound towards an audience. They are commonly used for orchestras, bands and choirs, plays and other audible performances. The Sound Shell provides improved sound quality and a weather protected area for performers.

In July 2017, Council resolved to support the Lions Club of Inverloch and Disctrict (Lions Club) to deliver the community led project to construct a new Sound Shell within the Glade. Recently, the Lions Club were successful in securing state government funding through the State Government’s Pick My Project grants program. Council has provided a financial and in-kind contribution towards the project, as part of its 2018/19 Capital Works Program.

Council officers are assisting the Lions Club to advance the current concept design into detailed construction plans. This includes undertaking preliminary investigations such as geotechnical assessment, survey work and working with the appointed design consultant to finalise detailed construction drawings. The original concept design was determined in 2016 following community consultation, led by an Inverloch Sound Shell working group consisting of representatives from the Lions Club, Rotary Club of Inverloch and the Inverloch Tourism Association.

Final design drawings are expected to be completed by May 2019, with construction to start once all necessary permits and approvals are obtained. Ultimately, construction of the Sound Shell remains contingent on all required funding contributions being secured.

The Lions Club is the principal community group responsible for the planning and delivery of this community led project. All State and Local Government funding and support agreements for this project have been established with the Lions Club. As the principal organisation, the Lions Club is responsible for all facets of final planning and delivery of the new Sound Shell, with support from Council in project management. The Council report of 19 July 2017 details the community consultation that the Lions Club undertook and the results of the survey.
