Loch Wonthaggi Road Landslip remediation works - Near Shire Boundary

Loch Wonthaggi Road landslip

Bass Coast Shire are about to start works on a minor landslip at a location on Loch Wonthaggi Road, 300 metres north of Bakers Road. See photo below. Loch Wonthaggi Road is a rural link road which is Council’s highest level rural road and provides key linkages across the shire. This road services public commuters, agricultural, dairy and school buses.

We wish to advise that Council has engaged Roger Bailey & Associates as part of our annual supply contracts to carry out minor remedial works for this landslip. It is anticipated that works may start from 23 June 2020 take up to 2 weeks, subject to favourable weather and contractor availability. These works are being partly funded by Council and State Government in the order $100,000.

The works will involve

  • Retaining wall structure (up to 30m long) including subsoil drainage lines using 3000mm diameter treated pine posts near the toe of the batter
  • Placement and compaction of locally sourced structural type fill to replace the batter slope including placement of crushed rock behind the retaining wall
  • Asphalt sealing works as required

We appreciate that these works may present an inconvenience to road users and we ask for your patience during these times, whilst implementing appropriate traffic control measures. Road users may experience some traffic delays (up to 5 minutes). Please plan your trip accordingly.

Our community, local residents, businesses and other stakeholders will be kept up to date with the project via our website www.basscoast.vic.gov.au.
