Council wishes to advise that building and open space renewal works are about to start or have been completed as part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Building and Open Space Renewal Program for 2021/22.
Benefits to the Community
Bass Coast Shire Council is committed to providing effective and safe building facilities, reserves and other public infrastructure within the Bass Coast Shire. This project will ensure delivery of Council's adopted Community Service Levels for, Community Health and complement similar projects within the Shire recently completed under the Building and Open Space Renewal Program, in response to customer requests received from Local residents and groups.
What to Expect
Foreshore Toilet Block - Thompson Avenue and The Esplanade Cowes – Internal Painting Works - COMPLETED
Works shall involve the preparation and treatment of the ceiling and painting works within the toilet block. Works are anticipated to start Monday 4 October and take up to a week to complete. The public toilet facility will be closed during this period. Public are advise the nearest public toilet facilities are located on the foreshore The Esplanade/Findlay Street or Mussell Rock foreshore area – The Esplanade/Warley Avenue.

Phillip Island Tennis Club – Retaining Wall improvements and Light Tower works - COMPLETED
Bass Coast Shire have engaged SR Excavations & Bilson Electrical to carry out Replacement of Retaining Wall and Light Tower Phillip Island Tennis Club Cowes located at 1-15 Chapel Street Cowes. Works are expected to start on 4 October and complete within a week, subject to favourable weather and contractor/supplier availability. See map below.
The existing timber sleeper retaining wall has reached its end of life and requires to be replaced. The footings of one of the light tower located near the retaining wall has settled and requires to be fixed. These works will involve removal of existing timber sleeper retaining wall, construction of a new concrete sleeper retaining wall, remove the light tower and the existing footing, followed by the construction of new concrete footing and reinstallation of existing light tower.

Old Post Office Wonthaggi - Internal Painting Works - COMPLETED
Following the recent roof replacement works that have been completed, internal painting works have started. The works shall involve preparation and treatment of the ceiling/walls etc. within the main areas of the old post office. It is anticipated to be completed by end of October. The old post office will be open for use by late October.

Inverloch Yacht Club Fence Replacement Works - COMPLETED
These works involved the replacement of sections of the existing fence and gate. These works were completed late September 2021.

Wonthaggi North Kindergarten – Replacement of Floor Coverings COMPLETED
Works include removal of the existing and replacement of the existing floor coverings. Works have begun and is anticipated to be completed before Christmas, subject to material and contractor availability.
