Weeds & Pests

Weeds

Weeds threaten the health of Bass Coast's natural environment and agricultural areas. Everyone has a responsibility to control weeds on their property and you can be prosecuted if you don't make an effort to control certain types of weeds.

The Common Weeds of Gippsland Brochure (PDF 1MB) helps you identify almost 80 species of our region's worst weeds.

Environmental weeds can invade and out-compete our native plant communities, and result in loss of habitat for native animals. Please help our ongoing community effort to reduce and control the impact of weeds in our environment.

Further information is available on how to dispose of weeds and green waste and Waste Facilities and disposal fees.

Rabbits

An ongoing rabbit control program is conducted on Council-managed coast and bushland reserves in order to minimise the spread and impact of rabbits on biodiversity and public open spaces within these reserves.

Information and details about the annual program can be found in this Rabbit Control Program information sheet (PDF 308kb).
