Social and Affordable Housing

Bass Coast Social and Affordable Housing Strategy

We are currently developing a Social and Affordable Housing Strategy to guide our response to housing insecurity and homelessness in Bass Coast.

Following consultation with Service Providers and State Government departments, we have completed the Social and Affordable Housing Background Report including five technical reports that focus on:

  • Housing Needs Data Analysis
  • Affordable Housing Policy Framework
  • Planning Mechanism
  • Land Assessment (under development)
  • Engagement Summary

The next step is to develop the Strategy which will set out principles and priorities and will include an action plan for the next 4 years. The draft Strategy will be made available for public consultation later in the year.

Big Housing Build (Homes Victoria)

In November 2020, the State Government announced the Big Housing Build (BHB) - a $5.3 billion investment into social and affordable housing. This included a guaranteed minimum investment of $25 million in the Bass Coast.

Council welcomes the State Government’s commitment to deliver much needed housing for the Bass Coast community. We are looking forward to facilitating the development of social and affordable housing where it is most needed.

We are working closely with Homes Victoria to help identify opportunities and share the data we have about the local need for housing. The allocation of the BHB funding will be determined by the State Government, and houses will be delivered either by the State Government itself or by community housing organisations.
