If you are a full time carer of someone with dementia or a chronic health condition, our Carer Retreats may offer you the chance to have a well-earned holiday together.
Caring for someone full time can be exhausting and with this in mind, we plan these two night and three day holidays. The itinerary is flexible and designed to give you a break while the person you care for is looked after by our trained staff.
We organise separate trips and outings for both groups during the day and everyone meets back at the accommodation venue for dinner. Transport, accommodation and meals are included in the retreat.
Carers Victoria will conduct a workshop during the retreat, which provides practical strategies to help you manage stress. Carers also have the chance to experience various relaxation techniques which can be used at home, eg massage, yoga and facials.
Priority is given to people who have not been away or had a holiday together for a long time.

We give carers opportunities to take a break from their caring role by providing opportunities to socialise, recharge their batteries and learn new skills. A range of opportunities are offered which get you out of the house and socialising with other people who also have caring responsibilities.
Carers are involved in decision making about the type of activities they would like to be involved in. We are currently offering the following support to carers:
- Carers social activities every couple of months
- Carers workshops – these are a great opportunity to meet with other carers and learn a new skill, laugh a little and learn some great techniques to help support you in your caring role at home
- Carers support group meeting regularly
- Respite in your home or out in the community

Carer Recognition Act 2012
Carers improve the lives of the people they care for, contribute to broader community well-being, and provide a substantial economic benefit. Carers deserve to be recognised and valued for their important role.
Council's vision is that all carers feel acknowledged within the community and supported by the services they interact with. That’s why we formally recognise carers and care relationships and support the Carers Recognition Act 2012.
