Stage 3 changes to waste services

Stage 3 changes to waste services

Published:
Thursday 6 August 2020

Following the State Government’s announcement of Stage 3 restrictions for Victoria, Bass Coast Shire Council has made some changes to its waste services, to ensure the ongoing safety of its employees and the community.

Waste Facilities remain open, but in accordance with State Government directions you should avoid travel unless for essential purposes only. Please avoid attending waste facilities unless your visit is for one of the following reasons:

  • Businesses and commercial waste disposal; or
  • Waste disposal for Bass Coast residents who do not receive a kerbside collection service.

Proof of residence must now be provided when attending any of Bass Coast’s waste facilities – this can be in the form of a driver’s licence, rates notice, utility bill or similar.

Hard waste collections are still available and bookings can be made by calling Wonthaggi Recyclers on (03) 5672 1933. The standard service fee is $65 or $36 for Pension and Health Care Card Holders.

Kitchen Caddy Liners

Kitchen caddy liners will not be available for collection for the next six weeks while Bass Coast remains under Stage 3 restrictions, to help reduce non-essential travel.

In the meantime, newspaper can be used as an alternative to line kitchen caddies. There is no requirement for food waste to be wrapped: it can be put straight into the green-lidded Organics Bin, or a bowl, tub or bucket can be used and tipped directly into the Organics bin.

If you feel that your need for green caddy liners is urgent, please contact Wonthaggi Recyclers on 5672 1933 and they will arrange to get some delivered.

While these changes could be inconvenient, Council acknowledges that there is a need to protect the health of our community.

Please check www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/waste for further information, or contact Council’s Waste Services Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211 if you have any questions on how to manage your waste during these challenging times.
