Renewal works for Fincher Street

Renewal works for Fincher Street

Monday 11 January 2021

Bass Coast Shire Council is continuing to improve its local road network, with renewal works along Fincher Street in Wonthaggi scheduled to start in mid-January.

The works will occur between the McKenzie Street intersection and number 33 Fincher Street, and between number 61 Fincher Street and Graham Street. This $923,000 project is fully funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which aims to assist community led recovery from Covid-19 by supporting local jobs, firms and procurement.

This project is expected to be completed in early April, subject to favourable weather conditions and potential COVID-19 restrictions.

Council recognises that it can be a challenge to deliver these sort of works without affecting residents and road users, especially when much of the work is determined by weather conditions; therefore, these works are scheduled to occur when there is more chance of dry weather.

The aim of this project is to ensure that Bass Coast’s urban road network is safe and sustainable for the community and maintained into the future.

The project includes road pavement reconstruction, driveway crossover works, asphalt sealing and underground stormwater drainage, kerb and footpath construction. These works will also provide formalised parking bays along the residential side of Fincher Street.

While this work is taking place, there will be some access restrictions, such as road closures and detours put in place as required. Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will also be implemented onsite during the works.

Local and emergency access will be provided at all times.

The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions to road users, residents and businesses during these works and Council appreciate your patience during these times.
