Mayor's Message - 21 September
During times of stress and uncertainty, it can be really easy to get caught up in the negatives, which makes it even more important for us all to focus on the positives. There’s a lot of kindness and generosity in our community, which is exactly what we need right now – let’s do all that we can to make sure kindness rules in Bass Coast and keep smiling behind those masks!
More than 70 percent of eligible Victorians have now received their first COVID-19 vaccination. In Bass Coast, around 80 per cent of people have received their first dose, and around 53 per cent of the eligible populations is now fully vaccinated. This is an incredible result! If you aren’t yet vaccinated, please consider making an appointment today.
It was great to hear the Premier announce that gyms and indoor pools can now re-open in regional Victoria, which is great news for some of our local businesses. But for so many other businesses, it has been and continues to be, a really tough time out there. The ongoing impacts on tourism, hospitality and other sectors means that our businesses still need our support. Continuing restrictions have also made it really difficult for many of our local businesses to continue offering their services to the community as they normally would. But amazingly, despite the ongoing uncertainty and adversity, there is a range of local businesses diversifying, particularly restaurants and cafes, with takeaway and home delivery being offered. We are aware that many other businesses are doing business differently too. It is really great to see so many adapting their services and exploring opportunities to help them stay operational in this challenging time.
We all want to be able to support local where we can, so I would like to encourage everyone who can, to buy local and support our small businesses as we continue through the COVID-19 pandemic.
