Mayor's Message - 20 July
As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise around the state it’s an important and timely reminder to not be complacent about social distancing and to get tested if you have any symptoms at all, no matter how minor they may be. It doesn’t matter whether you’re young, old or in-between – we all need to do our bit to keep ourselves, our family, friends, colleagues and neighbours safe. We may not have the restrictions that people living in metro Melbourne and Mitchell Shire have and by being aware and careful, hopefully we’ll keep it that way.
Keeping your social distance doesn’t mean that you can’t still smile at people you see, say hello and just be kind to one another. Look out for your neighbours and check in on those most vulnerable in our community. A smile or a friendly chat can be enough to make someone’s day, particularly for those who may be missing their families and loved ones living in Melbourne under Stage 3 restrictions.
Speaking of restrictions, we’ve seen a drop in the number of visitors to our area because of the reintroduction of Stage 3, and this will have an impact on our local businesses and tourism operators. So now more than ever, wherever you can, buy local and explore our backyard. There are plenty of things to see, do and enjoy in Bass Coast and now is a good time to make the most of them, all while keeping our social distance that is!
