Mayor's Message - 2 August
I note with sadness the passing of Archie Roach. I was a fan of his album ‘Charcoal Lane’ but reading his book ‘Tell me why’ gave me much greater insight into Archie’s life, a member of the stolen generation who rose to become an icon in Australian music and Australian leader. He told his story through song and rallied his generation with songs like ‘Took the Children Away’, giving voice to the victims of that shameful episode in our country’s history. A wonderful man with an incredible voice, a brilliant songwriter and a great loss.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Business Awards are back for 2022 – and I encourage all local businesses to get involved. There are six categories for the judged awards, including Access, Equity and Inclusion, Business Innovation, Environmental Sustainability, Leadership, Marketing and Communications and Resilience. The Business of the Year Award will be presented to the highest scoring application across all judged categories. The awards also have a People’s Choice category, which provides the community with a great way to show support for their favourite local businesses. It’s been a challenging time for businesses and these Awards provide an excellent opportunity to reflect on recent achievements and to showcase your business to the community. They also give Council an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful work of our business community. Nominate your business or vote for your favourite businesses at www.engage.basscoast.vic.gov.au/business-awards
before Sunday, 28 August at 5.00pm.
