Mayor's Message
Cr Brett Tessari

A big thank you to everyone who has supported this year’s Mayoral Fundraiser, held in partnership with the Rotary Club of Wonthaggi. On Saturday, I hit the treadmill at the Wonthaggi Plaza to run as many kilometres as I could (10!), to raise money for the local Ambulance service. Our aim was to raise enough to fit a CorPuls device in every Bass Coast Ambulance. I am really pleased to say that we raised $45,000 which is absolutely fantastic.

After three years as Mayor, this will be my last Message. At this week’s Council Meeting (Wednesday, 17 November) a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected and I have decided not to re-nominate for the role. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me in the role, including the previous Councillors, who I worked with for four years and the current Council.

I would like to thank the community, Council staff and in particular, the assistants I have had the pleasure of working with over the past three years. I would also like to say a special thank you to my wife, Leanne and to my family for their unwavering support. The role of Mayor is a busy one and I am looking forward to spending more time with my family.

Some of my proudest moments as Mayor include the creation of the Country University Centre (CUC) Bass Coast. It was so fulfilling to be a part of that project from the time it was just an idea, to seeing it become a reality and now watching it flourish.

I am also really excited and proud to see the new Cowes Cultural and Community Centre coming to life. This is such an important project for the Phillip Island community and I know that once built, it will become the centrepiece of Island and possibly the whole Shire. It is going to be just incredible. We have really pushed for this project and we have been well supported by both the State and Federal Government, which is also a really wonderful achievement.

It has been a few years now, but I am also really proud of the new Senior Campus for Wonthaggi Secondary College. The new school is incredible and it includes a basketball/sports stadium that we could have only dreamed about just a few short years ago.

There are many projects, events and achievements to be proud of, and these are just a few. I look forward to seeing what we can achieve over the next three years and beyond.

P.S. Over and out, Katie.
