Grantville given a sporting chance

Tuesday 2 July 2019

The Grantville Recreation Reserve is set to receive a huge boost, thanks to a State Government Grant towards the Grantville Activation Project.

The State Government recently announced it would provide $250,000 towards the $500,000 Project. The remaining $250,000 will be provided by Bass Coast Shire Council, the Grantville Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and Tennis Victoria.

This is the biggest Recreation Project of its kind for Grantville and will see the development of a new, two court facility (one dedicated to tennis and the other offering a variety of activities such as basketball, soccer and netball), as well as a new skate park, play space, picnic shelter and pathways.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said the Project will provide a huge recreation benefit to the town.

"Actions from Active Bass Coast, the Bass Coast Skate Strategy and the Bass Coast Play Space Strategy have come together to make this a truly fun, active space for people of all ages," Cr Tessari said.

"Even more exciting is the first stage, which includes the skate park, is nearing completion and is expected to be open in July.

"The skate park has been very well received by the community, the kids can't wait to get on it."

Cr Tessari said the Project will help get the community active and healthy by providing a range of recreation activities in one spot for the whole family to enjoy.

"It will also have a huge impact in revitalising the Reserve and the town," Cr Tessari said.

Local Recreation Reserves play an important role in their communities. They provide a focus, a meeting place and an opportunity for social interaction. These works will provide a welcoming and friendly environment, enabling a greater level of access. The courts will be free for the community to use.
