Bass Coast Shire Council is hosting a free event for International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 8 March at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre.

The event will run from 7.30am to 9.00am and will include a light breakfast, followed by an hour with inspirational local speakers representing Women for Change, Gippsland Women's Health, Council and Totally Renewable Phillip Island, with Cr Rochelle Halstead as MC.

Bass Coast Shire CEO Ali Wastie said that International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women within the community, in our families and workplaces.

“It is also an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the UN theme ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, recognising the contribution of women and girls around the world who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation and response, to build a more sustainable future for all,” Ms Wastie said.

“We want to inspire women within our community and celebrate their achievements, while providing an opportunity to network, develop social and business connections and to support each other.”

Guest speakers will include Nina Barry-Macaulay from Women for Change, Benita Russell from Council and Zoe Geyer from Totally Renewable Phillip Island, as well a representative from Gippsland Women’s Health. The morning will also include the screening of several short films.

Everyone is welcome to attend this event, however bookings are essential via https://www.trybooking.com/BXGNP.
