Wonthaggi Oval was buzzing on Saturday, as Bass Coast Shire Council partners, Box Hill Hawks and Hawthorn Football Club, joined us for a fun pre-season training camp featuring over 100 players and officials from both the Victorian Football League Men’s and Women’s teams.

Intra-club matches for both teams were held in the morning, which featured local talent from both the Men’s and Women’s teams including Grace Matser, Sunday Brisbane, Grace McRae, Macie Gilmour and many more. Both players and officials were also impressed by the condition of the ground, which got fantastic feedback.

As well as their morning training, all the Hawks players were involved in conducting an afternoon Footy 4 Fun ‘Come & Try’ kid's coaching clinic with AFL Victoria, attended by around 80 local girls and boys.

The Hawks also provided the opportunity to develop our local coaches, thanks to their Coaches Forum. The session featured highly respected coach and Hawthorn's Head Of Development, Andy Collins, current VFLW coach Cherie O’Neill, plus VFL coach Zane Littlejohn. It was also a test run for the Hawks, in the lead up to an exciting announcement, officially being revealed very soon…

As official partners to Box Hill Hawks and Hawthorn Football Club, Bass Coast Shire Council were proud to play host at the weekend. Teams even enjoyed a surf lesson on Phillip Island on Sunday for the full Bass Coast experience. We look forward to further building our collaboration, driving greater football participation in the women’s space, while promoting South-East Victoria.

Watch this space for exciting news soon....
