Feedback wanted on Governance Rules

Feedback wanted on Governance Rules

Published:
Friday 17 July 2020

Bass Coast Shire Council is calling on the community to provide feedback on its Draft Governance Rules, which were released last Thursday, after endorsement at the July Council Meeting.

This is an opportunity to help shape the way Council delivers public question time, as well as the timelines and conduct of its meetings.

The new Local Government Act 2020 requires all Victorian councils to adopt Governance Rules, by 1 September 2020.

The Governance Rules will replace Council’s existing Meeting Procedure Local Law 2018, and cover procedures including the conduct of Council meetings and the election of the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. They also address the Good Governance Principles in the Local Government Act and include an Election Period Policy and an enhanced approach to addressing Conflict of Interest.

The Draft Governance Rules are now available to view on Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/meetings, while hard copies are available from Council’s Customer Service Centre in Wonthaggi (airlock), the Grantville Transaction Centre, as well as Bass Coast libraries.

Feedback is invited in writing to basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au, or addressed to the Manager Governance and Property and posted to PO Box 118, Wonthaggi, 3995.

Feedback needs to be received by 5.00pm, Thursday 30 July.

The final draft Governance Rules 2020 and revised Election Period Policy will be tabled for adoption at the August Council Meeting.
