Bass Coast Shire Council is calling on the community to have their say on the Draft Open Space Master Plan for the Fred Gration (Coronet Bay) Reserve.

The Draft Open Space Master Plan has been developed in collaboration with the local community and has had over 90 people providing ideas and feedback. It brings together the community’s priorities for the Reserve and Council’s directions identified within Active Bass Coast (2018) and the Bass Coast Playspace Strategy (2017).

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that the aim of the Draft Master Plan is to guide future development of the Reserve over the next 10 years.

“The creation of a community driven vision for this local Reserve allows Council to identify priorities that may be eligible for grants and future funding opportunities,” Cr Whelan said.

“The recent consultation highlighted how important the Reserve is to the Coronet Bay community.

“The Draft Master Plan proposes to enhance the open space components of the reserve through the creation of a new activity zone which includes a multi-purpose court space, new playspace and a centralised picnic shelter. Other considerations include the installation of accessible pathways, landscaping enhancements and parking arrangements” Cr Whelan concluded.

Council Officers will be running a drop-in session for the community and stakeholders to share their thoughts in person:

  • Tuesday 21 March from 4:00pm to 5:00pm at Coronet Bay Reserve

Feedback can be provided at these sessions, or in writing at recreation@basscoast.vic.gov.au or PO Box 118, Wonthaggi 3995. Submissions will be accepted up until Monday 3 April.
