Bass Coast Shire Council is planning for the future of Blue Gum Reserve in Cowes and Harold Hughes Reserve in Corinella.

Council is currently developing Masterplans for both Reserves to help plan for the future and identify priorities for the use, protection, development and management of these valuable community recreation spaces.

Because these reserves are home to a number of formal and informal recreation groups and activities, the Masterplans will identify priorities that improve access and enjoyment for a broad cross-section of the community.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor Cr Brett Tessari said Masterplans are an important planning tool.

"They get the community involved in creating a vision for their local park. They also allow us to illustrate priorities for grant and funding opportunities," Cr Tessari said.

"We can't underestimate the value of reserves and parks within our communities. They provide a place to meet, socialise and be active.

"That's why it's so important to get the community involved when planning for the future of these spaces," Cr Tessari concluded.

Council is seeking community feedback at several consultation drop-in sessions, held in early May. These drop-in sessions will provide the community with an opportunity to share their thoughts on the priorities for the reserve.

The first drop-in session will be held at Blue Gum Reserve on Thursday, 2 May from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. The second session for Blue Gum will be held at the Cowes Twilight Market on the Foreshore on Saturday, 4 May from 4.00pm to 6.00pm.

The drop-in session for Harold Hughes Reserve will be held on site on Saturday, 11 May during the Corinella Market, between 10.00am and 12.00pm.

Following these consultation sessions, Draft Masterplans for both Reserves will be put on public exhibition for a four week period.
