Bourne Creek Bridge works now delayed

Friday 12 October 2018

An upgrade of the deck and handrails at Kilcunda’s iconic Trestle Bridge (Bourne Creek Bridge) originally scheduled during October and November will now commence on 29 January and be completed by early March 2019.

This project is part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Renewal Program and involves the replacement of balustrading and handrails and an installation of Enviro-walk minimesh decking on the historic bridge and popular trail.

The new components will sit atop the existing bridge structure, providing a significant improvement to the safety and functionality of the bridge in the long-term. The slight delay will not impact on user safety until the works are carried out.

The project contractor Strzelecki Engineering Pty Ltd informed Council that the necessary offsite steel fabrication has been delayed and in order to minimise the impact on upcoming summer visitor, event and school holiday period, Council’s has agreed to move construction to commence from late January to early March 2019, weather permitting.

All key stakeholders will be kept informed and signage will be updated and in place for the duration of the works for safety reasons.
