Arts Centre revamp underway
Work has started to renew the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre’s ‘back of house’ area.
Opened in 1982, the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre holds a great deal of historical significance to the town and will welcome further improvements to the much loved venue
The ‘back of house’ area includes male and female dressing rooms, kitchen space, male and female and accessible toilets and a Green Room.
The renewal works will include new flooring and joinery in the dressing rooms and laundry, the installation of a new kitchen and appliances, , painting, and the installation of efficient lighting and plumbing.
These works will build on the previous major project undertaken at the Centre in 2018, which included a re-fit to the auditorium, stage and front of house.
This $250,000 project is being is fully funded by Bass Coast Shire Council’s 2020-21 Asset Renewal Program and is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that this project represents a further investment in arts for the Bass Coast community.
“These works will provide upgraded facilities for many local community groups that hire and use this facility including the Wonthaggi Theatrical Group, dance schools, primary and secondary schools, service and interest groups, aged care facilities and touring performers,” Cr Tessari said.
“The Centre also operates as a commercial and community cinema. While these works are underway, there will be minimal disruption to the screening of films, with Cinema sessions to continue over weekends. Please contact the Centre for session times.”
