Bass Coast is one of Victoria's fastest growing rural municipalities. With a unique combination of unspoiled coastline and picturesque hinterland, and less than two hours to Melbourne. Main Centres including Wonthaggi, Cowes, Inverloch, San Remo and Grantville - service the local population and more than 3.4 million visitors who arrive in Bass Coast each year. During peak holiday periods, population swells to over 70,000. From surfing to cycling to wining and dining and everything in between, Bass Coast provides the perfect balance of rural, residential and holiday lifestyles for all to enjoy - all with stunning backdrops of beaches, bushland and rolling hills.

Reporting to the General Manager Resilient Communities, the Manager Community Safety and Wellbeing will work strategically across the organisation, leading a multi-disciplinary department to ensure excellence in service delivery.

This critical role will help achieve safe and healthy community outcomes for residents and visitors to Bass Coast through leading recreation and community planning, social planning, community safety and environmental health, emergency management and reconciliation.

With the community at the forefront of everything Bass Coast Shire Council works for, and the community's wellbeing and safety being key to successful delivery of programs, the Manager Community Safety and Wellbeing plays a key role in shaping and delivering on the community's vision and Council Plan.

To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will be a politically astute leader with a contemporary leadership style. You will bring proven experience building and leading high performing and engaged teams in a community safety, recreation and community planning, social planning or aligned portfolio. Ideally you will have demonstrated experience in understanding the legislative requirements of Council and take a customer-centric approach to everything you do. You are known as a positive leader who can bring teams together to achieve success and have a sound understanding of the key pressures and opportunities impacting a fast-growing peri-urban community.
