Winners of the 2020 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards, announced on Wednesday, 15 January, were Don Turner from San Remo and Sophie Bolding of Wonthaggi North.
Citizenship ceremonies are the final step in becoming an Australian citizen and are held quarterly throughout the year in Bass Coast Shire.
We host several citizenship ceremonies during the year. These are held on Australia Day (26 January) and two more times per year.
Dates for 2020:
- Sunday, 26 January
- May/June - date to be advised
- Tuesday, 17 September
Citizenship ceremonies fulfill requirements prescribed by the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 and the Australian Citizenship Regulations 2007. They are conducted under the authority of the Australian Government minister responsible for citizenship matters. The current Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Immigration and Border Protection is The Hon Peter Dutton MP.
If you would like to find out how you can become an Australian Citizen, please visit the Department of Home Affairs website or phone 13 18 80. The Department is responsible for accepting and processing applications. Once your application is processed, and we have received notification of your success, we will invite you to next available citizenship ceremony.
