Members of the Smiths Beach, Sunderland Bay, Sunset Strip and Surf Beach Community Planning group are now at the stage of developing action plans and working out priority projects for their communities.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Community Planning Facilitator, Paul Greco, said community planning brings community members together to plan, provide for and promote the wellbeing of their local area in a proactive and positive way.
“This is the fourth workshop for these communities, but it is still not too late to be involved,” said Mr Greco. “At the last workshop community members used information collected at previous workshops and the results of the questionnaire sent to all ratepayers in the area to start work on their action plans."
“They have developed five key priority areas which are; Community Focal Point, Population Density, Shared Pathways, Environment Protection and Roads."
“At the next meeting on 14 November, each working group will refine their action plans and present them to the larger group for endorsement."
“Once completed, these action plans will form part of the broader Community Plan, which is owned and managed by these communities,” said Mr Greco.
The next Community Planning group meeting will be held on Saturday, 14 November from 2.00pm to 4.30pm in Meeting Room 1 at the Cowes Cultural Centre, 91-97 Thompson Avenue, Cowes.
“We encourage anyone from these communities to come along and share their skills and knowledge with the group,” said Mr Greco."
“You can be involved in developing the future of your local community and make new friendships at the same time.”
