Rate revenue collected by Bass Coast Shire Council is used to provide facilities for the enjoyment and safety of the whole community.
Paying Your Rates
Rates may be paid either annually or by instalments. If you pay in one lump sum, your rates are due on 15 February each year. If you elect to pay by instalments, payments are due at the end of September, November, February and May of each year. Rates that are not paid by these dates will usually attract interest charges at a penalty rate. The current interest rate is 10.0%.
There are several options for paying your rates.
Credit Card
Payments can be made by credit card 24 hours a day by calling 1300 300 408. Please refer to your Rate Notice for further information.
BPAY
Payments can be made directly from your cheque, savings or credit card account using BPAY (http://www.bpay.com.au/) Please contact your participating Bank, Credit Union or Building Society to discuss this payment option.
By Mail
Make cheques payable to Bass Coast Shire Council. Detach the payment slip on your rates notice and return it with your cheque or money order to:

Receipts will not be issued for payments by mail unless requested.
In Person
Payment can be made at any of Council’s Service Centres by cash, cheque, credit card or EFTPOS. Australia Post (POSTbillpay)
You can pay your rates in person at any Post Office, by telephone on 13 18 16 or on the POSTbillpay website at www.postbillpay.com.au.
Change of Mailing Address
You can update your new mailing address with Council via fax, mail or email. Please download, print and fill in the form or email your new details to basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au (please mark the email Attention Rates Office)
Change of Name
If you have changed your name, you can lodge your new name details with Council via fax, mail or email. Please ensure you fill in the form and return it to Council will the supporting documentation. Scanned forms and documents can be sent to basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au (please mark the email Attention Rates Office)
How Are Rates Calculated?
Rates are calculated by multiplying the rate in the dollar (an amount set by Council) by the value of an individual property. For details on how this year's rates were calculated, please download the 2009-2010 Budget on the right hand side of this page.
