Harmony Day 2018

National Harmony Day began in 1999 as a day on which we affirm and celebrate the rich cultural diversity in our country.

It coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the Australian Government's message of 'Everyone Belongs' and reinforces the importance of inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone in Australia.

This year Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre at Mitchell House Inc. are marking the day with a STREET PARADE!

Join us at 11.30am under the Poppet Head in McBride Avenue and once the whistle blows be part of the fun and join in our parade to the Wonthaggi Town Hall.

TOWN HALL PROGRAM - from 1.00pm:

  • Launch of our photographic exhibition and film: 'Many Faces: One Community' - highlighting Wonthaggi's wonderful multicultural story
  • Presentation of awards to our Local 'Harmony Heroes'
  • Insights into the Creative Aboriginal Language Revival project
  • Celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the arrival of our first Karen refugee community members
  • Singing and cultural performances
  • Games, food tastings and more!
