Domestic Recycling
All properties that receive a garbage collection are provided with 240 litre bins for recycling.
Recyclables are collected fortnightly. Over the summer holiday period between Christmas and the end of January, there will be a weekly recycling collection. Please visit our kerbside collection page, which includes a calendar of collection days and information on bin placement.
You can also deposit your household recyclables at any of Council's Waste Transfer Stations and Recycling Centres, free of charge, during normal opening hours (PDF 227kb).
What can I put in my recycling bin?
- Plastic - containers with codes 1 to 7 on the underside. These include milk, cream, soft drink and detergent containers.
- Glass bottles, jars and containers
- Aluminium - Including cans, foil pie dishes etc.
- Metal - All steel food cans eg. soup, pet food, baby food and any empty aerosol cans.
- Paper - Paper items including cardboard, newspapers, magazines, telephone books, cards etc.
All of these items should be placed loose in your bin. Do not bundle papers or put recyclables in plastic bags.
What you can't put in your recycling bin:
- Plastic Bags
- Household waste
- Broken glass or glass from windows and mirrors
- Green waste
- Syringes
- Clothes, shoes or any other fabric materials.
- Children’s toys
- Liquids including paint and oil.
- Timber or building materials
- Sheet plastic
- Nappies
- Dead animals
- Electronic equiptment.
Contamination is one of the biggest problems associated with recycling. Any non-recyclables in your recycling bin that are emptied into the truck can contaminate the entire truckload.
Remember to close the loop by buying recycled products as well!!!
