Dust Suppression

Council has previously used dust suppression seals to help reduce dust in residential streets. Effectively, this was a short term solution.

Dust suppression seals are costly to maintain over the long term and on average only last for about five years. They also fail to address any underlying structural road problems, drainage needs or provide footpaths.

A more permanent solution is through the use of owner-funded Special Charge Schemes.

Returning the roads back to being unsealed

Ideally all of the roads treated with a dust suppressant seal will be fully constructed through owner funded special charge schemes before the existing road surface becomes unmaintainable. However Council currently has a long list of special charge schemes on program and there will be a delay in implementing any new ones. Between now and then the surface of the roads with the dust suppressant seal applied will continue to deteriorate and Council may need to return the roads to being unsealed prior to the implementation of the owner funded special charge schemes.
