Free Green Waste Disposal

Bass Coast Shire Council will once again offer its free green waste disposal period from 1 November until 16 December 2018.

During this period, residents and visitors will be able to dispose of domestic sized loads of green waste free of charge at Grantville Landfill, Wonthaggi and Inverloch Transfer Stations, and Cowes Recycling Bank. Facility locations and opening times are available at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au/wastefacilities

Bass Coast Shire Council offers this service each year to encourage residents to get ready for the fire season. It allows home owners to clean up their properties by removing overhanging limbs, dry leaves and cutting long grass, and dispose of this green waste for free at local facilities.

Weed species and species that cannot be physically mulched will not be accepted in the green waste disposal. However, they can be disposed of in your green lidded Organics bin. Weed species include Blackberry, English Ivy, Agapanthus and Mirror Bush. These weeds along with palm fronds are excluded from the Green Waste Amnesty and can be placed in kerbside Organics bins for composting.

Council asks residents to be patient when disposing of green waste at the waste facility, where high demand often results in queues and delays.

Should there be extensive queues, access to the facility may be closed 30 minutes before the scheduled closing time, to allow for the unloading of vehicles already on site. This will help ensure that operations do not extend beyond the closing time.
