Land Management Rebate Scheme

The Land Management Rebate (LMR) formerly the Rural Rate Rebate (RRR), offers financial incentives on an annual basis for those looking to enrich and improve their land.

The new Scheme to be implemented for the 2012/13 financial year provides a rates reduction to landholders with rural land over 4 hectares who complete works that improve productivity and address environmental issues. The rebate for each property will be changed from being calculated as a percentage of land value to basing the rebate amount on the area of a property multiplied by amount per hectare ($/Ha) set by Council.

Application Forms for the 2012/13 rebate have been sent to properties that are eligible for the Scheme in January 2012.  Reminder notices were also sent to eligible land owners.  Completed forms must be returned to us by 31 March 2012 to be eligible for the rebate.

The Land Management Rebate is a component of the Land Management Biodiversity Incentive Scheme (LMBIS) which has just been completely reviewed. The review of the Land Management Rebate Scheme focused on better targeting the rebate to works being carried out on the ground, and providing greater equity for the eligible rural property owners.

The Scheme aims to recognise and reward landholders who adopt principles that enrich the natural environment and improve sustainable agriculture. Some of these improvements include:

  • weed control and eradication
  • protection/enhancement of remnant vegetation
  • control and reversal of soil erosion
  • protection of waterways and revegetation
  • pest animal control
  • control and reversal of soil salinity

The Land Management Biodiversity Incentive Scheme was originally initiated by local Landcare groups. The review was also monitored by a working party which includes local farmers and representatives from Landcare and Council.
