Emergency Management
Fire Prevention Plans
Fire Prevention is a statutory responsibility of all Victorian country municipalities.
Municipal Fire Management Planning Committee (MFMPC)
An MFMPC is established in each municipality as a sub committee of the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee to look at fire risk. The membership comprises representatives from the CFA, Department of Sustainability and Environment, Parks Victoria, Victoria Police, Phillip Island Nature Park, SP Ausnet, local water authorities and Vic Roads.
Municipal Fire Prevention Plan (MFPP)
The Municipal Fire Prevention Plan (MFPP) - (PDF 887kb) must be in accordance with the advice and recommendations of the MFMPC.
The Plan:
- identifies areas, buildings and land use in the municipality, which are at particular risk in the event of fire;
- specifies how each identified risk is to be treated; and
- specifies who is responsible for treating the identified risks.
Fire Prevention Plans for identified coastal and bushland reserves
Our Emergency Management Projects Officer and Natural Resources Officer have been working with the CFA to develop Fire Prevention Plans for identified foreshore and bushland reserves in;
The plans identify vegetation management issues in reserves and foreshores and general fire prevention issues. They layout an annual works program and, through inspections with the CFA, extra works are identified on a yearly basis.
Any feedback on these plans should be mailed to the Emergency Management Coordinator, PO Box 118, Wonthaggi VIC 3995 or by emailing basscoast@basscoast.vic.gov.au
