Emergency Management

Fire Danger Period, Burning Off and Total Fire Ban

What is a Fire Danger Period?

The Fire Danger Period is when the CFA restricts the use of fire in the community. This is to help prevent fires from starting. CFA declares the Fire Danger Period for each Shire or Council at different times in the lead up to the fire season. It depends on the amount of rain, grassland curing rate and other local conditions.

The Fire Danger Period is currently in place in Bass Coast at this time.  The Fire Danger Period commenced in Bass Coast on 4 December.

In Bass Coast, no burning off or incinerators are allowed in residential areas at any time.

Can I or can't I?

During the Fire Danger Period any fire in the open air is subject to legal restrictions. If you would like more information, contact the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226.
