Strategic Planning

Rural Land Use Strategy

In 2011 Council is embarking on a Rural Land Use Strategy to guide how rural land within Bass Coast Shire is used.

Around 70 percent of the land in the Shire is devoted to agriculture. The way we plan and use our rural land will obviously have a big impact on the character of the Shire.

It is important to get a range of views on this topic, which is why Council is inviting residents and ratepayers to register to be part of the process to develop the strategy.

Anyone who is interested in being involved in creating the draft rural strategy can register their interest by emailing s.skilton@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

Phase One

Phase One of the rural land use strategy involved a brief survey which closed for comment on 10 June 2011. Results of the Phase One survey can be found at http://consult.basscoast.vic.gov.au.

If you were not registered for Phase One but would like to be involved in further phases of the project, you can register your interest by emailing s.skilton@basscoast.vic.gov.au.

We recognise our policies need to be developed with regard to regional growth plans. These plans provide direction and priorities for Councils to ensure consistent and integrated approaches to development and other regional challenges.

The Gippsland Regional Plan covers the Bass Coast Shire and sets a strategic vision for Gippsland. A key priority is the development of a Gippsland Integrated Land Use Plan. A full copy of the Gippsland Regional Plan can be viewed at our Wonthaggi Office and is available as a two-part download:

Phase Two

We are moving to the next phase of our project and are now providing you with an outline of the scope of the project (PDF 333kb). The project scope outlines the steps that are being taken and the opportunities for you to have input into the project.

We are seeking your views on what you consider is important in developing rural land use planning policies.
