Statutory Planning
Is the process of assessing planning permit applications against the various requirements of the Bass Coast Planning Scheme and the Planning and Environment Act 1987 to ensure the development across the Shire is appropriately planned and controlled. Council wide input into the decision making process is facilitated where the scope of an application raises issues of social, economic and/or environmental significance.
A planning information request form must be completed and forwarded to Council's Planning team when seeking information on whether permits are required for specific uses or types of development.
Your planning permit may include a condition that requires a Land Management Plan to be submitted for endorsement as part of your permit application. You can do it yourself, or you can get a consultant to prepare the documents on your behalf.
Planning permits are required for most uses and developments within Bass Coast Shire.

There are changes to the approval process for dams in Victoria, effective from 1 January 2011.
Are you proposing works to waterways and/or drainage works on your property? You may need to obtain a Works on Waterways Permit available through the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.
