Recycle More This Summer
Bass Coast residents again have twice as many opportunities to recycle this Christmas.
From Monday, 27 December until Friday, 28 January, Council will offer weekly recycling collections.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Acting Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said that all properties that receive a regular kerbside recycling collection will get the extra service.
“The weekly recycling collection will be on the same day of the week as the usual collection,” said Ms Sist.
“It’s important that bins are out on the naturestrip by 6.00am the morning of collection.
“This is our busiest time of year and most of our holiday houses will be full.
“With these extra services we will be able to collect all the extra recyclables generated over the holidays, such as drink bottles, wrapping paper or packaging from Christmas gifts,” said Ms Sist.
Christmas recycling
Did you know you can recycle the following Christmas/New Year items?
- Christmas cards and envelopes
- Wrapping paper
- Packaging from presents like toys, MP3 players and white goods
- Clean packaging from Christmas lunch such as the box the turkey came in, the custard container and the plastic fruit, dip and biscuit trays
- Rinsed plastic plates and cutlery
- Plastic bottles, cans and glass bottles
- Newspapers
- Remember do not place your recycling in plastic bags; just put them straight in the bin.
All Council waste facilities will close on Christmas Day. These sites will operate as normal during the rest of the holiday period. Details of opening times are available on Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au or contact Council on 1300 BCOAST (226 278)
