NBN Co, the organisation created to oversee the implementation of the Federal Government’s National Broadband Network, has just released information about which towns in Victoria will be receiving broadband services.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Acting Community and Economic Development Director, Peter Francis, said many Bass Coast towns were listed.

“Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Grantville Cape Paterson, San Remo and most of Phillip Island will have fibre directly to the home,” said Mr Francis.

“While Dalyston and Kilcunda will have next generation wireless connections.

“A full list of towns in Bass Coast and across Victoria that are to be connected to the National Broadband Network is available at www.nbnco.com.au under ‘Our Services’.

“At this stage we don’t know when the fibre network will be installed,” said Mr Francis.

“The whole national roll out is expected to take up to eight years.

“We will be working hard to ensure Bass Coast is high on the priority list for installation as current broadband service in Bass Coast is well below the standard available in other parts of the state.

“Fibre optic cable is being laid across South Gippsland into Wonthaggi and also along the desalination pipeline, so we hope to be connected at an earlier stage.
