Over 30 people attended a Seniors’ Forum on arthritis hosted by Bass Coast Shire Council in Newhaven recently.
Council’s Acting Community Strengthening Manager, Berni Murphy, said the forums were a regular part of Council’s program to help senior residents remain independent and active within the community.
“Arthritis affects many people in the community,” said Ms Murphy.
“At this forum attendees got ideas about how to live more actively with arthritis, pain management techniques and muscle strengthening.”
Guest speaker Sheila Moore from Arthritis Victoria had a range of aids for people to try to help with pain management.
“The forum also sparked interest in the Arthritis Support Group run by Bass Coast Community Health,” continued Ms Murphy.
“Many people are keen to join this group that restarts in July.
“Meetings will be held at 1.00pm on the first Friday of every month at the Bass Coast Community Health Centre in San Remo.”
For more information on the Arthritis Support Group, please contact Jo Hillbrick on 5671 9200. This group will be open to anyone with arthritis.
“Due to the success of this forum we are looking to hold another towards the end of the year,” said Ms Murphy.
“We are always looking for forum topics, so if you have a suggestion please contact us on 1300 BCOAST (226 278).
