Mayor's Message

Mayor's Message - 13 January

I recently enjoyed the Kustom Nationals event at Phillip Island, and was thoroughly impressed with the amazing cars and fabulous entertainment. Cowes was buzzing with atmosphere, all restaurants were full and the ambiance was happy and friendly. All in all - it was a great day out.

Bass Coast has a diversity of sporting, cultural and social events and there is still plenty to enjoy this summer.  Find out what is on by checking the last page of the Good Summer Guide (also available in the latest edition of our Coastell newsletter) or the event calendar on Council’s website.

Bass Coast attracts many major annual events, some of which have a huge following of visitors which is of course is good for our local economy. We are also just as fortunate to have so many smaller sporting, cultural and community events.

When I look at the Bass Coast calendar of events I am pleased that it represents the diverse interests of our community.

For those of us who are fighting fit and active, some upcoming sporting events include “A day at the Cape” at Cape Paterson Foreshore, Surf Life Saving sporting events at Inverloch and the San Remo Channel Challenge.  One of our most popular Bass Coast events, the Kilcunda Lobster Festival, is on this month; and all ages can enjoy the unique cultural and musical experience of Serenade at Sunset at Tenby Point, also in February.

Events are an important way for communities to come together and also to raise money.  Council supports many local events through its annual community grants program and aims to fund as many groups as possible.  Council funds events to encourage the community to stay active and enjoy socialising with one other, and this strengthens the bonds we have as a community.

Whether someone chooses to be part of an event planning committee or just have a lot of fun attending an event, being involved helps communities thrive.

Cr Veronica Dowman, Mayor
Bass Coast Shire Council
