Council
Bass Coast has seven councillors, elected for a four year term.
Your Council:
- provides leadership for the community
- represent the interests of our area to other communities and to State and Federal Governments
- sets the direction for the future of the Shire (Council Plan)
- plans for and provides services and facilities, such as roads, community buildings, parks and reserves
- develops policies and guidelines to make sure the Council Plan can be achieved
The elected Councillors hire a Chief Executive Officer, who is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation. Bass Coast Shire Council is the largest employer in the Shire and currently employs over 400 staff, either on a full time, part time, temporary or casual basis.

On Wednesday, 27 July Council adopted its 2011/12 Budget which includes over $21 million in capital works projects, $530,000 in new initiatives and a total rates and charges increase of 6.9 per cent
