Construction progress at the Hub

Progress in the child care room at the Hub

Progress of the child care room at the Hub (April 2012).

What's happened so far?

The first step in building the Hub started in April 2011 with construction of roadworks allowing access to the building site. When the Hub is complete, the roadworks will become the car park and dropping off areas for the Hub.

In August 2011 Ducon Pty Ltd, the contracted construction company, prepared the foundations for the Hub building. The concrete slab was poured and erection of the internal framework completed. Services such as electricity, sewerage and water supply and fire services were installed up to the building.

In November the roofing was installed, external wall frames went up, as well as most of the internal wall frames, structural steel was erected and the block walls completed.

In December, the roof gutters, cappings and fascias were installed along with the window frames and part of the external cladding.

By the end of January the majority of the external works on the building were complete. All electrical, mechanical and plumbing services were roughed in, ready for the installation of the plaster ceilings and walls.

In March all carpentry was completed, the first two coats of paint have been applied and the joinery installed. The floors were prepared to have the vinyl laid.

Now, at the end of April, buildings works are well advanced. All internal and external painting has been completed. The floor coverings and tiling are laid and most of the fittings and fixtures have been installed.

What's next?

Over the next few weeks the commissioning of all services such as electricity and water will occur in the building. Externally, the trimming of the site will be completed.

The internal road will be sealed in May (weather dependent).

A consultant architect will develop the landscape master plan and the basic elements of the landscape plan will be constructed prior to term three when services from the Hub will start.
