Woni Proud Shopfront Improvement Grants

The Woni Proud Shopfront Makeover Grants program has been launched to help businesses within the Wonthaggi town centre to improve the appearance of their shopfronts and building façades. All businesses located in the town centre that have street frontage are eligible to apply.

This Program provides a grant from Council on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $1,000 for businesses and community organisations to undertake works that demonstrate creativity and a genuine commitment to shopfront improvement.

Available funding

Businesses and organisations can apply on a dollar-for-dollar basis to complete improvements to their shopfronts/building facades with the amount capped at $1,000 per business.

Businesses would be able to contribute over the $1,000 amount if they wanted to complete more significant works but would still only be eligible for $1,000 from Council.

Council has allocated $10,000 to this initiative in the 2018-19 Financial Year.

What is Woni Proud?

The Woni Proud initiative is about testing out ways to improve the town centre. Community ideas are also tested through events, such as a pop-up town square in Apex Park and pop-up mall in McBride Avenue.

These are part of the consultation phase of Council’s Wonthaggi Activity Centre Plan, which is currently under development. The Plan will provide recommendations for improving the town centre and a draft will be available for further community consultation in early 2019.

Is my business eligibile?

To be eligible for this funding, a business or community organisation must:

  • Be located in the Wonthaggi town centre
  • Develop an application outlining the intended actions
  • Provide written quotes for the amount requested in the funding application
  • Contribute to the proposal financially on a dollar-for-dollar basis
  • One application per business is permitted.

Successful applicants must be prepared to:

  • Invoice Bass Coast Shire Council for the approved funding allocation.
  • Provide relevant permits for work to be undertaken, if applicable.
  • Provide evidence of completion to be provided by photo or in report form
  • Expend funding as outlined in their application.
  • Complete the project by 30 May 2019.

You will also need to consider that:

  • funds are not available from the program retrospectively
  • ongoing or administrative costs not directly related to the project are not eligible for funding
  • funds can't be used for purchasing equipment (eg ladders, gurneys, scaffolding, and safety barriers), however hiring of equipment is permitted when directly related to the project.
  • funds can't be granted for works where a permit has been refused.
