Phillip Island and San Remo Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 Growing Tourism
Recognising that tourism is one of the main economic drivers of Phillip Island and San Remo, Bass Coast Shire Council has partnered with Regional Development Victoria, Destination Phillip Island and Phillip Island Nature Parks to develop a 20-year Visitor Economy Strategy for the Island to help ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of this important sector.
Tourism is a key economic driver on Phillip Island, which attracts over 1.85 million visitors annually. Visitor numbers are projected to grow by 4.2% per year to reach over 4 million visitors by 2035.
The Strategy was prepared by a team of Australia’s tourism planning experts, led by EarthCheck and includes local tourism industry and community input as well as specialist input from a range of world-leading tourism industry experts.
Community Tourism Reference Group
Bass Coast Shire Council is looking for community members interested in tourism on Phillip Island and in San Remo to be part of a Community Tourism Reference Group. Formation of the Group is one of the high priority actions from the Phillip Island and San Remo Visitor Economy Strategy 2035: Growing Tourism.
The Group will ensure an open and productive relationship between Council, the tourism sector and community and assist Council and its partners with the implementation of the Strategy in relation to:
Co-ordination of the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria certification process for Phillip Island and San Remo
Preservation of beaches and natural beauty
Prevention of deterioration of its foreshore
Maintenance of wildlife reserves
Improvement of facilities that would lead to the better enjoyment of the Island by the people.
Interested applicants should read the Terms of Reference (172KB) and must submit their Expressions of Interest (154KB) by 5.00pm on Friday, 17 February 2017.
